Is Flight-Tracker.net free?
Yes, completely. There is no trial and no paid tier, and every feature including the live map, the airport and airline pages and all of the guides works without signing in. A free account is optional and only adds a dashboard for saving the flights and airports you follow.
How do I track a specific flight?
Type the flight number or callsign into the search box at the top of any page, for example BA112 or BAW112. If we track that flight you will land on its own page with a live map, route facts and a seven-day activity log. Anything else currently broadcasting can be found on the live map.
Where does the flight data come from?
Aircraft broadcast their own GPS position several times a second over ADS-B on 1090 MHz, and a worldwide network of volunteer ground receivers picks those broadcasts up. We render that pooled feed. Nothing on the map is simulated or estimated.
How up to date is the live map?
Your view checks for the latest cached world snapshot every 15 seconds. The source snapshot normally refreshes every minute when authenticated access is configured and up to every 15 minutes otherwise. The pill above the map always shows the exact age of what you are looking at.
Why can I not find a particular aircraft?
Coverage depends on a volunteer receiver being within range, so aircraft routinely disappear over oceans, deserts and remote regions and reappear later. The aircraft may also be on the ground, or its owner may have asked for its broadcasts to be filtered.
